St Edmund’s School – Curriculum and Programmes
At the senior level, St Edmund’s School offers GCSE and A-Level programmes.
-
GCSE is considered the gold standard of the British education system and is taken in Years 10 and 11, with students usually studying between 8 and 12 subjects.
-
A-Level is a highly prestigious programme, particularly for entry into UK universities, and is often sufficient for gaining admission on its own. In the first year, students take 4–5 subjects, and in the final year 3–4 subjects, with a strong emphasis on choosing courses aligned with their future university studies. The range of A-Level subjects offered at the school is therefore very important. Some of the A-Level subjects available include: Economics, English Language & Literature, Modern Languages, Photography, Further Mathematics, History, Psychology, Mathematics, Physical Education, Philosophy & Ethics, Business Studies, Music Technology, Film Studies, and many others.
St Edmund’s School – Co-Curricular Activities
One of the most distinctive features of St Edmund’s School is the richness and variety of its co-curricular programme.
It offers one of the widest and most diverse extracurricular opportunities in Kent: students can choose from activities such as horse riding, chess, mindfulness, debating, drama, exceptional music programmes, and a wide range of sporting opportunities. The programme is flexible and constantly evolving, with new clubs and societies regularly introduced based on students’ interests and passions.
The co-curricular programme is not only enjoyable but also strongly focused on personal development. Students who engage in it often achieve greater academic success and gain the confidence and skills to excel both personally and professionally.
St Edmund’s School – University Destinations and Academic Success
The school’s student-centred approach to education translates into excellent academic outcomes: final exam results, high test scores, and impressive university acceptance rates all stand out.
In 2019–2020, 45% of A-Level students achieved grades A–A*, and 76% achieved A–B*.
