Curriculum and Programs at Worth School

• GCSE: Covers Years 9-11 (ages 13-16). All students follow GCSE/IGCSE courses from Year 10, with a wide range of subjects to choose from. For students from outside the UK (15+), a one-year pre-IB GCSE course is available in the Sixth Form to prepare for the IB Diploma.

• IBDP / A Levels: Worth is one of the few UK schools offering students in Years 12 and 13 the option to study either the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) or A Levels.

  • IBDP is challenging but highly rewarding, offering a broader curriculum than A Levels and encouraging independent thinking and creativity. Students select their unique combination of six subjects (three Higher Level, three Standard Level), complemented by the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and CAS program, preparing them thoroughly for university.

  • A Levels provide over 20 subject options, keeping all university pathways open. A Levels alone are sufficient for UK university entry, and they are recognized internationally, though some additional exams may be required in other countries.

• BTEC in Business is optionally available. BTEC Nationals are designed to specialize in various vocational sectors and provide UCAS points equivalent to two A Levels, typically studied alongside another A Level.

Extracurricular Activities

Worth School places great importance on extracurricular activities. Sports are highly popular, and physical activity is strongly encouraged. Students can engage in athletics, tennis, rugby, netball, football, hockey, cricket, lacrosse, and more. Many students, especially girls, participate in aerobics, ballet, and badminton. Other activities include billiards, basketball, golf, squash, archery, fencing, general fitness, and chess. Drama studio lessons involve participation in theatre productions, musicals, and concerts. About 40% of students play a musical instrument and take part in ensemble and choir activities. Numerous clubs cater to various interests, from mathematics to history. The campus also offers facilities for orchestra, photography, drawing, and sculpture. Students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

University and Academic Achievements

In 2021, 42% of students achieved grades 8-9 in GCSEs (38% in 2020), with 59% of all grades ranging from 7-9 (58% in 2020).

In A Levels 2021, 58% of students achieved A*-A (44% in 2020) and 80% achieved A*-B (70% in 2020).

The five-year average for the IB Diploma is 36 points, with the 2021 average also being 36 points.
